Hi,

I am fairly new to Access and am using 2007 to build a database at the moment.

I have a fairly simple employee database with general personal information etc and have a form set up to view this information.

My problem is, and please forgive me if I don't explain this very well, that our employees are all on certain shift patterns and are banded into Red, Blue, Green, Yellow and Purple shifts. I need to be able to find a way to be able to change the employee from the one pattern to another pattern and then be able to view on the form what hours they are then meant to be working in the coming weeks.

For example person A would be on the red shift which would mean a 10am start this week and an 11am start next week etc. If i then changed their shift to Blue shift i would need it to show for example that their start time this week would be 8am and next week 9am ( i hope that makes sense).

I am guessing i need some sort of table that would have all the shift patterns on with the shift name (red etc) as the key to the main table, however due to the 255 field limit in Access I cannot do it that way as i need at least the full calendar year.

Am i thinking about this in the wrong way?

Any help appreciated, but please be aware I am self taught and a lot of terminology may go over my head.

Thanks in advance

if they are weekly shift patterns dont you just need 52/53 fields

but surely these are repeating patterns so you only need 1 complete pattern for each shift

and maybe another table with week start dates to each shift pattern number to reference against

just my thoughts

vanbrims,

Greetings and Welcome to UtterAccess. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welcome2UA.gif)

I think I may have picked up this db from here (UA). I honestly don't remember when or where I acquired it, it has been that long. It will likely need some tweaks to meet your needs, but I should give you a good running start on your project.
