Good morning all,
I am just starting to build a new user interface and am looking for brutally honest input.
Any ideas / input would be appreciated

Thanks
Sky

Hi Sky,

In Sales_Reports_Screen (I think you posted this twice), you have 2 combos at the bottom left both called 'Select Start Period'. Should one read 'Select End Period'?

It would be nice to balance the buttons for opening the reports more rather than have 7 on the left and one on the right. Since they are all 'Preview Sales', you might just have a label at the top saying 'Preview Sales:' and the the buttons would have more room in their labels.
eg:
CODE
Preview Sales:
[ ] Summary by Year Commodity         [ ] Summary by Year Period Warehouse Commodity
[ ] Summary by Year Commodity Period  [ ] Summary by Year Period Warehouse Commodity Group
[ ] Summary by Year Period            [ ] Details by Year Period Warehouse Commodity Group
[ ] Summary by Year Period Commodity  [ ] Chart by Year Period Commodity

I think your form and report look great.

hth,

d

lol, yes one of those probably should be end period (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Good point with the Preview Sales at the begining of the report names. Don't know why but I always start out with that in the report names. As for the number of the reports, It will be balanced once I am done all the charts and graphs. I like all the data reports on one side and graphs on the other

thanks

Sky,

About the reports:
Most of my clients did not like reports with the black bars/background. They complained that It used way to much toner or ink. also for ink jet printers it was a lot slower printing. I now use very light gray. Saves money and time.

About the main menu:
I like the side menu on your main menu. I am interested in trying the same in a few apps. Would you mind sharing what you used to create it?

Hi,
OK, I will get rid of the black bars (IMG:style_emoticons/default/frown.gif) , I put them in because black and red are my favorite colors and I don't get any opportunities to use red

The side menu, I wish I could take credit for that one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) but alas I cannot
I got it from this website 1 ….. maybe 2 years ago.
I can make a copy of my db ( minus the data (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ) if you like, then you can just import it into your dbs or build around it.
It even has a built in user ( admin ) interface, it’s pretty sick

Let me know. And I take it I just zip and attach the db if you want it?

One thing that I would suggest is that instead of launching all of the menu items into their own popup, have them open in that section to the right on the main menu. That is standard application design, and will clean up having multiple forms running all over the place.

Hi Sky,

On your Reports form you have a separate button for each report. When the users start printing these reports they will almost certainly come up with suggestions for more reports (in my experience) and you could end up with dozens of buttons which could be more confusing. I would suggest you use a more flexible system for selecting and printing general reports. The Reports Selector System here shows one example.

Just a thought!

See the thread I linked to above and note, as I stated in that thread, the flickering issue was addressed in posts 34 and 35.

Hope that helps.

Hi Peter,
The Reports Selector System is absolutely perfect. I have a database with over 60 reports in it; this will simplify things so much. I am very excited (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Have a great day guys
