I am using access 2007 / Office 12. I am using DAO to open a database. I am getting this error:
Unrecognized database format 'C:\Documents and Settings\a208659\Desktop\Sharepoint_Report_Request.accdb'. first of all, I have this reference checked: Microsoft DAO 3.6. (it was the only DAO library I could find when looking up and down the list of reference libraries). After reading both Allen Brown's page on the issue, as well as this article, I realized that 3.6 is the wrong reference. (why do I even have it listed in my references, if I"m NOT running Office 2003 ???). So I UNCHECKED that reference to DAO 3.6, and, not seeing any other DAO listing, (per allen brown's page, it should be called DAO 14.0). But his page also says, that equates to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\acedao.dll, which I browsed for, and DID find, and I double clicked on it. However, after double clicking, it doesn't appear in the list and I dont' know how to 'check' it. what do I do??? |

Looks for the Microsoft Office 12.0 Access database engine Object Library
You've got DAO 3.6 because Access 2007 still supports the MDB file format. |

Ok, so the information on the webpage was wrong then.
I have DAO 3.6 checked (do I leave it checked?) I found Microsoft Office 12.0 Access database engine Object Library and checked it, but it said, Name conflicts with existing module, project or library...... Here is what I have checked: which one should I uncheck?

For an accdb, you must use Microsoft Office 12.0 Access database engine Object Library and not DAO 3.6.
Incidentally, I just checked Allen's page. He states QUOTE DAO
(Microsoft DAO 3.x Object Library or Microsoft Office xx.x Access database engine) |

Oh ok, yes I see that - I guess I was misreading his chart. I would never have realized that it was required to choose one over the other in this case. Thanks so much Again , Doug!
