This is an abstract from a very large holiday rentals property app. which I have been developing for the last 14 years, since Access 97. It demonstrates how the fairly complex SQL is constructed and has reports and calculations based on that. Rentals is a complex business, properties can have many daily rates - according to time of year and there is a system for calculating these daily rentals for any given period within the seasonal rates table. More seasons can be added at will.
This answers the perennial question of available, booked and clashed rental periods. The SQL can be adapted to any other hire items, staff holiday planning, anthing where scheduling is the object. This is based on number of nights booked but will hold up for any period including periods of less than 24 hours if time fields were added. An formatted template is included so that bookings may be automatically exported as diagramatic coloured blocks to Excel.
