I have been trying to add the control "Microsoft Date Picker Control" to my list of ActiveX controls in MS Access. I researched this and found multiple references to a file called "MSCOMCT2.OCX". I downloaded it from this forum and followed the install procedure described. Here is information about my system:
- Windows Server (2008) 64-bit-
- Office 2003
- MSCOMCT2.OCX info: File version 6.1.98.16, dated 3/24/09 - 659264 bytes
To install it I used the line: regsrv32 c:\windows\sysWOW64\mscomct2.ocx from a command line with administrator privileges and got the message "DllRegisterServer in c:\windows\syswow64\mscomct2.ocx succeeded".
However... no controls are available to use in Access or Excel or Word. I wanted the date picker control to use in Access.
We do have another sever same set up except the MSCOMCT2.OCX is dated 3/9/2004
At this point my research skills are exhausted and I look to the specialists to tell me what might be wrong.
Thanks,

Ok, Here's how I just got it. Have your form and ToolBar up, right-click on the Toolbar or any menu bar, select Customize. Commands tab, select "ActiveX Controls", on the right hand list, select "Calendar Control 11.0". Drag that control to the tools menu.

That being said, a good alternative is MerleDatePicker at Another Date Picker. The advantage being that it's all in code and forms, so it's transferable to A2007 and A2010 without changes. Also it makes your app transportable to other users, and far easier.

Thank you for your quick reply. I do not need the Calendar Control 11.0 that is already on the tool bar. I need the Microsoft Date and Time Picker 6.0 (SP6). I have about 10 databases that use this control on several forms. I never would have use the date and time picker never did like it but I did not originally wright the applications. The person who writes the check is not going to want to spend the time and money to go thru and replace these controls if it works on one server should be able to make to work on the other.

You're right - it's not the same one. The (SP6) means Visual Basic Service Pack 6, and I have it installed on two machines that I have VB6 installed on, and not on others. It doesn't seem to be accessible to me either in Access 2003. Maybe add it as an OLE object. I'll see if I can work on it further. I wonder how the app was deployed to the other machines. The OCX had to have been deployed somehow. Has it been deployed to your computer as an application?

Ok, I was able to get it on a form in a new Access 2003 project. I had to register it as you did. Same comct2.ocx file. Then it appeared in my list of ActiveX controls under Customize menubars and I dragged it to my Form Toolbar. From there I drew it on the form.

Hi charlespolkaz,

The reason this control does not work may be because it is an old version which has been disabled by the KillBit Windows update. See Microsoft Security Advisory (960715) and Cumulative Updates for further information. The version numbers of the latest ActiveX controls (including the MSComCt2.ocx control) are there.

Peter Hibbs.

Edit: Hmm, just checked your version against the MS site and they are the same so it should work. Just tried using that control on my system which is Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit and it works OK. Maybe something to do with the OS, don't know anything about Windows Server 2008!

Sorry I took so long too responded. I finally got IT involved and of course they wanted to try everything I had already tried.
IT changed the UCA (User Account Control) and rebooted the server and now everything works.

Thanks for all the responses!
