I'm helping out a friend by designing a new database for his office. I have V2003 at home where I am doing the design work. He has 2000 at his office on all his computers. It will eventually be installed as a split database with the BE on the server and a copy of the FE on each workstation (about 10 of them).

Can anyone let me know if I'm going to run into trouble with this set up? I have the database formatted for V2000 on my computer while I design it. I am also including ULS in the design.

Anything I should know or do as I build this???

Thanks for any help.
Rick

The default file format for Access 2003 is the Access 2000 format, so as long as you don't change file formats, you should be okay.

There are a few new features that were introduce in Access 2002 or 2003 (unfortunately, I can't find a comprehensive list): make sure you don't use those new features, and things should be fine. One new feature that comes to mind is the ability to add items to combo boxs or list boxes using the AddItem method. If you're not sure if you've used a new feature, compile the application in Access 2000 once you've copied it to the new machine: that'll identify issues.

I had this issue in a question a while back too - i.e. trying to run off a list of changes off the top of my head.
I should have bookmarked the question of course :-S

Umm.. OK in for a penny... let's go. (Any others to chip in and we can get a comprehensive list going!)

Printer Object control (2002)
List Controls bindable to recordsets (2002 )
List Controls AddItem / RemoveItem (2002 as mentioned by Doug).
OpenArgs for Reports. (2002)
The Application ExportXML and ImportXML methods. (2003)
Dependency Object (2003)
Pivot Tables (2003)
XP Theme Support (this will silently revert back of course - isn't code based)

Of the new events "Undo" is the most likely to be used I'd guess. (2002)

There's bound to be more - but they jump out at me as useful (and hence perhaps tempting to use for you).

Rick.

In terms of backwards functionality, you may find this faqa helpful. It's a couple of years since I put it together but no new info has come my way.
