I hesitated as to whether this question should go into the 'Other' discussion area - but in the end my question really is an Access question and in a way it is a tables question , so here it goes - - -

an existing MySQL db has data that I will need. Don't know anything else about the db at this point and don't know MySQL at all.

Q: When creating a new Access application will I be able to use the generic Link Table method to the MySQL db's tables?

Somewhere between "Definitely' 'Maybe' and 'No' - would welcome advice from anyone out there that has been in this situation. It is a first for me....thanks in advance....

Yes.

You just need to download and install MyODBC which is free from the MySQL web site and set up an ODBC Connection.

The only thing that might stop you would be any limitations placed on the server by the owner/administrator of the server. If no such limitations have been put in place then you won't have a problem.

Ok thanks for the heads up on that download. Just assummed MySQL already had ODBC ability - didn't realize you would need to download anything....

Maybe it will become self evident when I get into this download...assumming this download is installed to the MySQL; then the Access perspective...will I use the Get External/LinkTable? ...and point to that MySQL db?

I believe the ODBC driver is installed on your machine, not the server.

Check out this link for info on how you use the Connector/ODBC once it is installed:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/myo...ith-access.html

There's a good section about half-way down named "Using Microsoft Access as a Front-end to MySQL" that might prove useful for your situation.
