Please forgive the newbie-ish question. It has been a long time since I have used Access, but my current employer is going to be asking me to put together a 'few simple databases' for her using Access. I can see the train a comin'...

I've purchased a couple of books, and am starting to plug away at home to get myself back up to speed. I like this 2010 version much better than 2003. But I have come across a problem that I know I will have to solve and so far neither the books nor my poking around has solved:

What access object can I interrogate to obtain the logged-in userid on the machine that the Access database is running? The network is peer - to - peer and all machines are running windows 7 and require the user to login.

Any help or direction that you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Tanks!

btw, what is the 64-bit equivalent? the 32-bit solution does not work for 64-bit Access.

and is there any downside to using Environ("UserName")? It would seem to be a much simpler, cleaner solution to the whole issue.

The environment variable is not too reliable. It may be acceptable in situations where security is not important, but can easily be faked to impersonate another user (for instance).

Dan:

If you could view "Part B - Logged In Username In A 64-bit World " and comment I would appreciate it. This problem is ALMOST solved...
