I've made a Selection on an Image and I need to change the Selected Area to Grayscale, but upon changing, it changes the entire image.

How can I make the change only to the selected area?

Here is one way. After making the selection, make it a work path. Do a "save as" and create a duplicate of your entire image with a different name. Open the duplicate and change the mode to greyscale. Click on the work path and change it to a selection. Copy selection. Open the original color image and paste the greyscale portion to a new layer. When it is positioned correctly, flatten the layers. Hope this helps!

i know you got your answer but an easier way would have been to draw your selection copy merged the selection onto a new layer then adjust the image to greyscale

When you say to "adjust the image to greyscale", are you talking about adjusting the curves to remove color? Just curious.

Sorry wasnt very clear make your selection. Ctrl + Shift + C to copy merged then Ctrl + V to paste onto a new layer. Then click IMAGE > ADJUST > DESATURATE

Thanks Simon. I thought maybe you were adjusting the curves on each color to a zero output. Thanks for clearing that up.
