Greetings. I've searched for this on the web but I'm either being too picky and/or not asking the right question.
I'd like to create a script/applet that will search a users local hard drive (C:\) for all *.doc, *.xls, *.ppt, *.pdf and copy them to a folder. The folder can be on the user's local drive or their "private" network drive (if local, it will then be copied to this "private" network drive). You can see that I'm trying to create a backup of user's data (in the event of the hard drive dying). Has anyone created something like this that I can modify to meet my needs? TIA, AvgJoe This post has been edited by AvgJoe: Jul 8 2011, 01:03 PM |

Hi AvgJoe,
Have you checked out SyncToy from MS?. After the intial sync it will only move differences in files You can script it with command line options too. hth, d |

David,
It looks like SyncToy just might be what I'm looking for. Since user data is likely scattered all over their HD, it may be a challenge to get everyone to use something like a My Documents folder, or like me, use a Data folder with subfolders (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc). Luckily, the network folders are monitored, so I think I can prevent this (SyncToy) from being used as a (non-work related) back-up for pictures and music. Thanx again - (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hat_tip.gif) AvgJoe |

I hope it helps AvgJoe. I can't remember whether you can choose which types of files to sync though.
Good luck, d (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif) |
