Hello there.
I've created a database with several tables and ultimately one query. Ive created a form that reads from this query. I have designed the form so the data (all of them text fields) can be easily understood by a partnering company who I intend to send the database to. My issue is that he uses a mac. Is there a way to allow him to look at the form (as read only) without having to acquire "office for mac"? I want the layout to remain..I don't want to just give him a table of text. Here is one thing I tried...exported the form as an Access Data Page as well as a copy of the database file to a memory stick. I was able to read the form from another PC in internet explorer after i ammended the connection string, however I couldnt achieve the same result on a mac. Maybe the mac browser software couldn't read the Page? Is there an easier way I am missing? I would appreciate any help! Thank you. |

Hi,
Possibly you could make a report (instead of a form) and export the report in pdf format? (Not sure if a Mac will read PDF's - never used one, but I think they will). Being you can make a DAP you must be on version 2003 or earlier... you would need Mr. Lebans ReportToPDF functionality to get the report to a pdf. Also, the DoCmd.OutputTo method has a number of options for something of a similar concept. hth |

Aha! That may well work. I'll try that now. I've never created a report before but I'll give it ago (i'd never opened MsAccess before two months ago either but I seemed to have done okay so far!)
I'm not sure what the ReportToPDF functionality is either. Is that something I can install, like a plug-in? Thank you for the help! |

The problem with DAP is that they work only with Internet Explorer and with ActiveX enabled. Mac no longer has IE (I can't recall the last time I opened IE on Mac but I would bet that you'd also need to run it in a Classic environment to boot.) In short, I don't think DAP will cut it. You could do this with an Access 2010 web database which is more standards complaint but you need to have SharePoint hosting / license (specifically Enterprise one -- one possible hosting solution is accesshosting.com). There's also another company but I don't know for sure if it works on Mac browsers -- EQLData.com.

google "lebans reporttopdf". It should take you right to his site for the download, which will include instructions.

Thank you so much for the help.
I'm confident now I will be able to achieve a PDF version of the data (c/with layout). I appreciate your time. |
