Does anyone know why it should take 5 minutes to recalculate when you fitler something? Excel will have to recalcultate the count of records returned which it displays instantly and it *might* have to recalcualte totals on the selected page. It should not affect ANY other calcualtions in the workbook. So why does it take 5 minutes to filter about 250 rows with only NO numeric columns to total?
Turning off calculations does not speed up the filtering process. This has to do not with recalcualting the workbook, but with filtering a single page. Is there any way to tell Excel don't go through all of this until I tell you I am finished with applying all the filters I intend to apply? |

Dan,
Open Control Panel and then Add/Remove Programs. Check to see if the "Microsoft Office Validation Tool" is installed. If it is, uninstalling it will dramatically shorten the recalculating time. AvgJoe (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hat_tip.gif) |

I have Windows 7 and I see a Microsoft Office File Validation Add-in - could this be what you are talking about?

Dan,
Yes. I believe that's what is giving you the (recalculating) grief. AvgJoe (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hat_tip.gif) |
