Hi all,

This one should be easy (uh...well I hope anyway <grin>)

I have 2 users that edit the same Excel 2000 spreadsheet. They are comfy with only being able to edit the sheet one at a time but when the first user has the spreadsheet "locked" the second user would like
to refresh the data to see what the other user has entered. The second user could, in fact, close the spreadsheet and then reopen it but that is kind of a pain. Is there a way I could give them the option to refresh the data either in the way of some sort of timer or at least a manual refresh?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Zjooj

Why not share the workbook?

Hiya Zjooj - I'm good, you?

Open the workbook on your machine.
Click on Tools >> Share Workbook.

Play around with the settings to get what you need. Excel also has a good help file on this - search for "Ways to allow multiple people to work on a workbook"

I'm Doing well.

Thanks for the help. I'll give it a shot but I wonder, will this allow the users to get up-to-date data
without having to close/open the spreadsheet to see new data the other user has changed each time?

Also, in case they don't want it shared, is there another way that they can see changed data when the other user is editing it? Refresh the data manually as well?

Yes, assuming you set the refresh interval (Advanced tab)

And.... no - they would need to save and then get the read-only person to reopen.

HTH,

PS. Of course, another option is to convert the sheet into an Access DB - this would solve the problem immediately!

I agree. The problem is it is a schedule type spreadsheet and we are still having a hard time getting Access to do scheduling well enough that they can see the data a month at a glance. I have an access schedule system built but they don't like it as well as the Excel version. (IMG:http://www.utteraccess.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/shrug.gif) oh well.

Thanks again Ad! Hope your day goes well.
