Hi,
I'm trying to get rid of the scroll bars that automatically appear on a web subform. If there are enough records in the subform, an appropriate additional vertical scroll bar appears.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Jim

Maybe I'm not understanding your problem, but can't you just set the "Scrollbars" property of the form to Neither?

Thank you for the response. Take a look at the attached picture. What you'll see is that there is a vertical scroll bar for the subform (the inside one) this is correct and should be there.
However, there are also scrollbars (vertical and horizontal) that appear to me like they're on the border of the subform frame. These are the ones I want to get rid of.

I've changed the size of the form and the sections inside of the form without positive results.

Any help our suggestions would be appreciated.

Oh, that's probably because the size of the subform control isn't large enough to display the entire subform in it.

Expand the subform control and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

George, I really appreciate you helping out. I've reviewed the form in detail and can't figure out how to do what you're talking about. The subform is a simple report and has a width of 5.5" and the control box that subform resides in has dimensions of width:6.7813" and heighth: 1.7292".

hm. You're using a report as a subform? Then you need to make sure that the dimensions are really what you THINK they are. The display area may well be just 5.5" but I doubt that it is actually going to take up that space. Open it in report view and see what it looks like outside the subform.

George, yes the 'report as a subform' is from the "Issues" template. I'm still searching, but haven't had a lot of luck yet.

When you open the report as a report, it will show you exactly how wide it really is. The subform control needs to be that wide or it will add the horizontal scroll bar. That's the downside of using reports as subforms. The vertical scrollbar, of course, needs to be there to allow users to scroll up and down the report.

George,

I'm still struggling. Any chance you could take a look at the database? I could send you a local version of it and you could upload it and see if you get the same issue.

I've checked all sizing and can't figure it out. I'm starting to think it's the way the form is rendering in html...

you can upload a copy of the database here.

Compress it into a zip file and upload it. It will need to be less than 2gb.

Okay. I'm at work, so this will not float to the top of the "to-do" pile for a few hours. But I'll do my best to look at it and get an answer to you this evening.

I'm confused. None of the forms or reports in your uploaded db look like your screen shot. Is this the right db?

George,

I'm sorry I didn't describe it better. You don't have time to totally dissect by db.

If you publish the file I sent you to Access services, then open the db in sharepoint.
Click the red ID #1 (the only record in the db), then the form that pops open will have the unwanted scrollbars in the comments section.

If you open the file in Access, you see the problem in client mode. The form is called frmToolDetailInput.

Thanks for looking.

Jim

(by the way, I have your book and am waiting for the 2010 version to come out!)

So far, I haven't figured out how to fix this. I'll try again tonight after work.

I am on the verge of calling this a bug in the way the report is displayed within the subform control. I hate to give up, but I can't find a way to display the report without the scroll bars.

I even recreated the report, thinking it might be some corruption in the original report.

I'm going to ask if we can get some more eyes (and brains) on it.

Great, thank you, George.

The Issues template report doesn't have this problem. I've compared my form to the Issues template several times and can't find a difference...

Okay, I have a theory now. This report is inside a tab control on the popup form. I suspect that may be the problem. See what happens if you put the report into a subform control on the popup form without being in a tab.

George,

Please tell me what your theory is. I took your suggestion and rebuilt the form - and placed the subform outside of the tab area, and the scrollbars went away (see pic)! THanks for the tip- it was what I needed to move in a different direction. I really appreciate your help.

Regards,

Jim
