Ok so i am so lost and frustrated. I dont know how I got it, but there is this AWFUL virus called Security Defender and I cant get rid of it!
I have started my machine in safe mode with networking and scanned the system with Malwarebytes and it picked up 3 trojens and also the virus. I got rid of them and deleted them. But then I restart my computer and the stupid virus is still there!!! I have also looked to find any registry entries and couldnt find any for this virus. I also searched the web and every page says to use malwarebytes or their own virus removal. I dont trust any of these sites so i dont want to download their virus removal tool. Any suggestions????? |

Katrina,
More than likely, you're going to need a Rootkit removal tool. You can try Kaspersky or, you'll have to trust one of these websites and download their rootkit removal tool. You may even need to re-write the Master Boot Record ("MBR"). This can get pretty involved. You may want to have an IT person make an evaluation. I use malwarebytes all the time to fix this infection.
1) run malwarebytes 2) run CCleaner If you are running Windows XP make sure your normal user account is not an administrator otherwise your system is wide open to infections. |

My dad had this on his machine a few months ago. He went to a PC specialist and they said they cleaned it (which I don't doubt but I believe they missed sopmething). A few weeks later another virus reared its ugly head (not sure what the virus is called but his webpage would be re-directed to other sites then where he wanted to go). With the help of some wonderful people here (AvgJoe and Dougy) I was able to kick a bit of virus booty. As of today his machine looks to be cleaned. I also told him to be careful on where he goes on the net and what he clicks in email. I don't even check me email at home anymore due to what I might catch. You never can be too careful with everything that is out there.
