This is the question .

I have been asking several people about splitting a database or not. There will be 2,possibly 3 users on a shared drive. I am getting conflicting answers....sooooooooooooooooooo....

I need opinions; the good, the bad, and the ugly!

Thanks,

Trish

Any multiuser database, must be split. Check out Sharing an Access Database .

There is no alternative. SPLIT.

The Ugly is with an unsplit system you run the risk of Data Corruption.

... Did anyone tell you to go with the Split database configuration? ...

I even split my db apps when they are single user!!!

It is also important to note that the FE (Front End - Forms, Report, Queries, etc ..) is NOT shared ... each user should have their OWN copy of the FE either on their own hard drive or on a private network folder...

Everybody so far has said to split it...so I will. I have only created single user DB's so I never really had this issue before. I will check out the suggested link and practice on my own sample stuff first.

Thanks for the input!

Brent says:

I say:
Everyone should split their applications even when only a single user!

Split!

Is there any other way?

I always create split Access databases. Even for single users. It just makes development so much easier ( Example, linking to test data sets). Backups are easier. etc. ...

I think I have this working. I created an MDE form the MDB. I split the MDE and distributed it tonight (practicing on my home computers first!). So far so good but me thinks updating is going to be a pain in the tush!

Does this process work the same for an ADE with a SQL background? The school I work at needed a form added to the database...easy enough. I put the form in the ADE, again, all is well. Now I am terrified to split/replace the original. Does this make sense or do you need more info?
