If you think you've got a new virus or you have an odd file that you believe to be a virus, below are the email addresses of the major antivirus vendors where you can submit your sample for analysis:

Note that most labs will not respond to you if you don't include enough background information along with the infected file you send. The list below is a good guideline:

  • What symptoms cause you to suspect that your machine is infected
  • How you believe you got the virus
  • Whether any antivirus products find a virus (product name, version number, results)
  • Name and version of the antivirus product you have installed, even if it doesn't find the virus
  • System details that may be relevant about your system (operating system version, updates, etc.)
  • Your name, company name, phone number and email address
  • A list of all items contained in the package/message you are composing


Also, most labs will want you to zip up any infected files before sending. If you don't have a zip/compression utility, WinZip has a freely downloadable evaluation version you can use.
