i am just learning access for last one week.... and i am running out of time.

I have list of students and projects they are working on. a single project may have multiple students assigned.

I want all students to put hours on different project on weekly basis.
I want to pass on access form / executable to the students so that when they open the file, they will only see the projects they are involved / named, it will connect to central database and students will be able to update hours worked for previous week next to project list or they can change the week they want to update. The central database will store all records for all students and all weeks.. So @ the end of the year I can see total time spent on a particular project or based on students.

What have you created so far?

What tables do you have?

How are the tables related?

I suggest you start by reviewing

The students will be accessing the database locally through a wired LAN connection? Or remotely over wireless, web WAN connection?

You want the students to remember all projects and all hours and only enter that data once per week??????

They only get to use the computer once per week?

Access can simply accept any hours added per project for any time and then put them all together per project or per week or whatever later using query.

If you want each student to only see their own data then Access needs a user id. it could be their windows user id or your app could have a simple logon password of its own

I apologize for not being specific enough. We need more than the names of the tables to be able offer useful suggestios.

Tell us--or maybe better--SHOW us the tables with all of the fields in all of the tables.

Student table :
Student Role
S1 User
S2 User
S3 User
S4 User
S5 User
S6 User
S7 User
S8 User
S9 User
S10 User
S11 User
S12 User
S13 User

Project table extracted from another system : input

Project_ID Project_Name Students
101010 P1 S1,S2,S8
101011 P2 S5
101012 P3 S6
101013 P4 S1,S2,S4
101014 P5 S8
101015 P6 S4
101016 P7 S3
101017 P8 S1
101018 P9 S1,S5,S14
101019 P10 S4
101020 P11 S7
101021 P12 S9
101022 P13 S10

What i need to provide to students an interface, where they will see projects they are associated with and option to put week ending date and hours.
May be something like this,

Project_ID Project_name Studen_name Ween_ending_date Hours
101010 P1 S1 4/1/2018 20
101017 P4 S1 4/1/2018 20
101018 P9 S1 4/1/2018 0
101013 P1 S1 3/1/2018 40
101020 P7 S1 3/1/2018 0
101021 P12 S1 3/1/2018 0

All of these data will be combined into single database .

I have never tried it....but I have seen others do it...so I know it can be done. Access does not much care where the data is and it can be from many different places all coming into one app if you want. Personally, I think that gets pretty messy...and when something goes wrong it is not easy to find and fix. But.....have at it.

I believe what I would do is.....at form load event.....just do a quick import of the excel projects list into your projects table....you will have to decide if you will compare and update or completely replace yours with the new excel list.

Happy to help. That demo is pretty bare bones.... but it gets the job done....plus it gives you something to work with and learn more access.
