This is message on odbc
Microsoft SQL Server Native Client Version 11.00.3407

Running connectivity tests...

Attempting connection
[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0]Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [53].
[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0]Login timeout expired
[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0]A network-related or instance-specific error has occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. Server is not found or not accessible.
Check if instance name is correct and if SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. For more information see SQL Server Books Online.

What can be the cause of connection failure??

Thank

I would first look at two things.

Has anything changed on the server where the SQL Server instance is installed?

Has anything changed in your organization's network?

Also, I would probably recommend TCP/IP over named pipes.

That appears to be the connection to the SQL Azure database for an Access Web App, not an on-premises database. And, of course, this is in the AWA forum (my bad for not noticing), so I should have thought of that first.

So you should be using TCP/IP, not Named Pipes, which is what your error message shows. "Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0]Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [53]. "

Please verify that is set up correctly.

It may be a problem on the SQL Azure side.

Does your AWA work properly?

Can you connect to the SQL Azure db with SSMS?
