Dear Gord,

Is there any way we can get a better SQL highlighter/parser than comes with this board's software?

Looking at the SQL in this post makes me want to cry!

Test query below:
SQL
SELECT
t1.Field1,
t1.Field2,
t1.Field3,
SUM(t2.Field4) [Total]
FROM tblOne t1
INNER JOIN tblTwo t2 ON t1.ID = t2.ID
WHERE t1.Field1 = 999 AND t1.Field3 LIKE '*something*'
GROUP BY
t1.Field1,
t1.Field2,
t1.Field3
ORDER BY SUM(t2.Field4) DESC

Who knows what's a keyword, identifier, function, value, .... aaaaargh! pullhair.gif

... and all the formatting has been lost! crazy.gif

Sorry for the rant, but since SQL is really quite a main language for databases, I just thought I'd ask!

That aside, there's still no place I'd rather be, so a very big thanks.gif

It's still better than what comes with Access. crazy.gif

Daniel,

So very true! doh.gif

But I guess, however slim, the chances are better for getting Gord to make the changes to the boards than getting MS to fix Access! giveup.gif

I agree that a SQL highlighter/parser would be a great addition.
And almost anything is better than native Access. confused.gif

Notepad++ (with SQL Language) and PoorSQL(formatter) are OK, but they're separate processes.

Sorry if you think I write bad SQL. grinhalo.gif

It would be nice to be able to format your SQL for display here more readily. UtterAccess uses bulletin board software which has certain capabilities, but there are, obviously other capabilities it doesn't have. Customizing commercial software, as you may know, is not simple to do, though.

We have discussed such matters a lot among the admin team. Some things are easier to pull off than others. Finding a plug-in SQL formatter that would be compatible with this BB software is among those "nice to add" features that should be revisited.

I understand that adapting the current board software is tricky.

UA gets so many things right, some things would make it even better!
