26 April 2015

Who'd have thought 13 years ago, in April 2002, that UtterAccess would grow from a handful of enthusiasts hoping to keep the spirit of A3 alive to a community with more than 250,000 members. Tomorrow, April 27th marks our 13th birthday. Our look may have changed through the years, but our reason for being has remained constant. Quite simply, UtterAccess is here to provide members with a forum for the respectful exchange of knowledge of all things Access. Simon Wolf, the founder of A3, describes how UtterAccess grew from its A3 beginnings.

We have Gord, the prime mover behind UtterAccess, our team of Moderators and Administrators, our worthy VIPs, and most importantly of all, every member who comes here with questions and/or answers, to thank for our on-going success and our place in the Access community as the premier Microsoft Access help forum.

Congratulations and thanks, one and all!

I've accumulated a few more gray hair to display for the wild ride ... but it's been an enormously fun and exhilarating experience for me.
I hope to continue for many more years to come ....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! uarulez2.gif cheers.gif Now UA is a teenager!

Thanks, Glenn, Ricky, Gord ... and everyone who makes this such a wonderful place. UA (everyone) has made me much better at my craft - and I think better in other ways as well. For this I am truly grateful...

Looking forward to the next 13 years (if this old man can last that long!).

Regards,
Joe

Happy Birthday UA! A journey of growth to be sure. April 27th, 2002 also happens to be the date I became a member of UtterAccess. Additionally, I was honored to become UA's first VIP, at Rick's invitation. Getting to know Gord, Rick, Glen, Doug and all the other Admin Team members has been an unexpectedly, delightful privilege. Members old and new here have contributed to make UtterAccess what it is today.

Many thanks to Gord for keeping the lights on, to the Admin Team members for their guidance, to the VIP's for their nurturing and to the members for their content, questions and feedback.

For 13 years, UtterAccess has been a big part of my total internet experience and my 'go to' source for all things Access.

I am grateful to be part of the UA experience and family. uarulez2.gif

Happy birthday, UtterAccess! Days like this make me feel very fortunate and proud to be a part of the best online family a person could belong. I hope that UA continue to succeed and give the Access community a great place to meet for many more years to come. My heartfelt thank you to Gord for all his hard work and generosity. I hope that you receive hundred times more than what you have been giving us. Cheers, everyone!

Happy birthday to us!!!
Some of the best friends I've never met in person wink.gif
Without UtterAccess and its wonderful members who were willing to share their knowledge and experience,
I wouldn't have had the opportunity to learn how to use Access.

And the reasons it's stood the test of time are quite simple.
1) It's still one of the best places to actually get answers - even if you've asked the wrong question.
2) We very rarely get 'personal' and there's virtually no flaming
3) A sense of helpfulness and humour seems to be the ethos.
4) Not too much dogma.

Long may it continue

David.

I don't know if I can say enough good things about this place.

I certainly wish continued success, and many more birthdays to come!

My sentiments echo pretty much all of the above.

Happy Birthday UA.

When I started working with Access a few years ago I looked around at different Access based forums. When I found UA I felt right at home. Thanks to this forum, and some of the amazingly helpful people here, I've been able to learn so much and bring my skills to a level that has allowed me (in the last 12 months) to start my own business in data systems development. Having said that, there's still so much to learn!

Thanks UA, and especially the usual bunch of ladies and gents, for providing assistance to us little guys smile.gif

Cheers UA!

Happy Birthday UA !

If I may add one more point to David's response: The members are also humble (they do not talk "down" to anyone, no matter the skill level), realistic (they fully acknowledge that Access has limitations, so it is not a panacea for all situations), and patient.

I also want to echo Bert's sentiments. I started visiting UA about 10 years ago, and it gave me the confidence to learn VBA, and it really enhanced my databases. Thanks to all for the lessons, tips and sample code.

PS -- In 3 more years, will the site be getting its driver's license? (ha ha)

I am reasonable comfortable stating that UA is the top or what one calls the gold standard for MS Access forums.

There are “many” Access forums, but how UA has progressed is a true story of success, and one that’s well deserved.

Those few dedicated users in the early days thus today can see the fruit of their labor, and the results are amazing.

So a round of applause and “toast” to UA! applause.gif

UA is certainly my favorite “go to” place for Access information.

And those who contributed in those early days are now “captains” and icons of the Access community.

So I tip my hats to all those early and long time posters here – you were posting DURING a time when posting here was not so cool nor such a honor that I enjoy here today!
