It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of long time UA Moderator and Wiki Editor Alan Greenwood (Alan_G). Since joining UA in 2003, Alan was an active member of our community, helping countless members improve their understanding and use of Access. Alan's signature line It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice, is well reflected in each of his posts. Alan, we will miss you.

Alan was one of the first kind souls who welcomed me with open arms at UtterAccess, and I never looked back ever since.

He was very helpful and likes to add humor to his posts, which lifted everyone's spirit while trying to tackle an Access problem.

Thanks, Alan for all your contributions. We will miss you so much!!!

My condolences to his family and friends.

A great friend and awesome example.

Warm regards,

I'm so sad to hear this.
I enjoyed conversing with Alan (and participating in Yorkshireman banter - as someone who now lives in Yorkshire Vs his native status) even more than the tech aspects of the threads we shared.
A pure gentleman.
His legacy will remain.

I'll raise a pint of something better than John Smiths' to ya mate.

Alan was great. I always loved reading his responses to posts. Always spoke well and treated everyone with respect which are two key things I love about UA..and he embodied them! Imagine the things he is learning now!!

Sad, sad news indeed. frown.gif

Alan was a true gent of these boards, and I've no doubt also in all the other areas of his life.

Go well, Alan. I'm going to miss seeing your Homer avatar brightening up a thread.

My condolences to your family and loved ones.

Oh my – very sad.

My condolences.

If anything, I can try to emulate his kindness that was always his trademark on UA – but I never will come close to his kind - no matter how hard I try!

Alan was my #1 fan club of my “wans” article. Alan likely linked to and suggested to readers here MORE than anyone else that article of mine.

UA certainly lost a gold star member here.

Golly - might have to change my avatar to some Simpson's deal for awhile.

I will miss his posts here - so will all of UA.

A kind but late thank you for all you done here!

Rest in peace!

Thank you all for your comments, I am Alan's close friend and business partner. We have a special form for leaving messages that can be read either during or after his funeral by his family and friends, you are all very welcome to submit a memory or message.

It would mean a lot to his family, to hear how he has helped many people all over the world, as well as in his home town and country

Many thanks

Alan was one of the first people I encountered here on UA. I remember he was always eager to help out, and was not only knowledgeable, but great at explaining the concepts behind his suggestions. In short, everything I strive to be.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones. I only had a few opportunities to exchange ideas with him, but he was always helpful and a true gentleman.

The Access and UA community have lost a great one.

Such sad news. RIP Alan, thank you for all the help and support you have provided this community over the years. I'm pretty sure I was the recipient on a few occasions too of your wisdom.

I'll have a pint tonight in your honour, one Yorkshireman to another.

So sorry to hear this.
Alan was so helpful to me on many occasions and we did have few nice exchanges about S Yorkshire where I lived for a while.
He was nice and important.
RIP Allan

Very sorry to read the sad news regarding Alan.

He was very helpful and on many occasions he supplied the required code to get me over another issue.

He will be missed by UA for all his support and help.
