Well, I don't see the point of the ID field. but this should do it for you:

CODE
Seq = Nz(DMax("[ID]", "DeptSeq", "Year([DDate]) = " & Year(SratDate)), 0) + 1

Thank you very much, I've checked it in 2010 it works as what I need.

* If you could advice me where to study advanced Ms Access?
* Is it fine to do my applications for multi users environment with Ms Access front end and SQL Server back end or Ms Access ( I have a minimum knowledge in SQL SERVER) ? * How many users can access Ms Access with back end Ms Access at the same time?

Thanks again. thanks.gif

Glad it worked for you.

I'm probably not the best person to ask for advice on studying Access, since the resources that existed when I started 20 years ago no longer exist. Try snooping around in the Wiki, plus check out the Newcomer's Reading List, Any Version that CyberCow's compiled.

Access makes a fine front end to SQL Server, but you may need to do a slight redesign to ensure that only the necessary records are brought across the wire, rather than everything.

Unfortunately, there's no easy answer to "How many users can access Ms Access with back end Ms Access at the same time?". It's like asking "How long is a piece of string?". It depends on the design of the tables, what the users are doing (reading vs. updating), the speed of the network and many other factors.
