I have a muti-user system. The number of objects is becoming quite large (approx 400). There are some collaborative inputs from a few department members. What I want is the REPORTS avaialable from their data.Is it possible to keep all the QUERIES seperated in a different database (which they maintain) and hose the REPORTS in the main user system? This will keep the user system less bloated and allow for the collaborative programming to be done from their own desktop in a seperate system. Is this possible?

It wasn't mentioned, but I'm assuming the DB is split in to a FE and BE. You could distribute multiple front ends. Have the main data input front end distributed out to everyone and then have a reporting front end that had read-only access to the data. That way there is no chance they could alter data by their queries, yet they have flexibility when designing reports. Keep in mind, though, that its moves the burden of backups to the user as their Reporting DB is now the master.
