I'm trying to figure out what to search for because I'm so new to access. I have a table with p.o. numbers and dates (the dates are the dates that an update was done to the p.o.) I'm trying to sort by p.o. first then by dates then I want to filter out only the most recent dates per p.o. What exactly to I search for to get what I'm looking for? Any help or direction is appreciated.

I would use the MAX on date and group by the primary key in a "totaling" query with a WHERE selection for the date you want. The use this as a sub query.

easy now, I said I was new to this. How's that go again?

Okay, first. How do I do a totalling query? I can't figure that part out. I have a select query right now and its not giving me the option to do a max on the date.

In query design, on the menu select View > Totals. This will turn on the row in the grid.
