Are you really using access version 1.0?
FOr is the database in that format and you are using a current version of access?

I am using Access 2003
freakazeud
what version is the database file?
kanamathareddy
Everything is in Access 2003

If the mde option is greyed out than it can't be. Most likely your fileformat is Acc2000 which is the default format. But this shouldn't matter for the design view issue.
HTH
Good luck
