Hi,
All my carefully crafted text file import specs have gone.
The MSysIMEXSpecs file is empty. Does anyone know what might have caused this and how to prevent it happening again?

To answer your questions: No and no.
However, if you have a backup, turn on 'show system objects' (via options) and import the MSysIMEXSpecs and MSysIMEXColumns tables from the backup (having deleted them from your current database first)
Specs restored!

Aha - here is the answer:
Missing Table MsysIMEXSpecs Basically its because you lose the MsysIMEXSpecs and MsysIMEXColumns tables when you convert from Access2000 to Access97
