Access MDE Unlocker

Just curious if anyone has used this and with what success. As a developer of small apps, some that are in mde format to protect my code, I'm wondering if this would allow clients to just bypass a need for my ongoing hard work and expertise grinhalo.gif

From what I read, it seems that my code is safe...the program only allows a person to allow visual(?) changes to the forms and add macros to create additional functionality.

Hi,
I think the company does offer a service which can retrieve code. Personally I have never used it but heard of people who have with success. They do require proof of ownership in that case.
Check this actual site for more info.

So you have to buy their MDE Source Code Protector to protect your code from a company that offers a Code unlocker?...

!!???...

Does this seem in the least bit odd to anyone else? Almost like the person who poisons you but is right there to sell you the antidote.

Seems like either MS needs to do something better to protect intellectual property.

They have...Access 2007 combines the encryption feature with (top of the line encryption algorithms) and the database password feature to make it a lot harder to get to your data/objects. Now how long it takes to crack that is just a question of time.

Thanks for the info Oli-S.

I don't think many clients (of mine, at least) will be on 2007, for at least a year. And none (I think) are astute enough to uncover these items. None the less, it's just a bit unnerving that anyone is a few clicks away from taking all of your hard work...

Access is not known for its tough security and normally it is more important to secure the data the application is using then the application itself (which can be done with server side solutions and a frontend).

Hi Phil
Recently bought a book by Garry Robinson called Real World Microsoft Access Database Protection and Security. which turned out to be a great read on the overall subject of security.
Worth an investment..
