Full Version: Forms and linked tables

I am fairly new to Access. I have created a DB for multiple users (7) using linked tables. I am constantly updating the DB and lately have been having issues when I open the DB for editing forms, reports, etc. (front end stuff). Every I open the DB, my forms are not fully "linked" to the DB. By that I mean that all of the information from the tables comes in to the fields but any concantinations, expressions or calculations in the forms or reports show a "#name?" error. If I simply go to design view, copy and paste ONE of those expression fields in each form, everything goes back to normal for the entire form or report. I am going mad trying to figure out how to fix this. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

Hi,
Welcome to UA forums.
Is this application set up correctly for a multi user environment meaning it is split into a frontend/backend file and each user has a copy of the frontend on their local drive linking back to one backend on the server/shared drive?

Good luck

Thank you for responding...Yes it is. Every user has their own copy. My latest update, that I have not given to anyone yet, is creating this #name? error. Also, every user's copy is an ACCDE file.

So you are doing the changes in a development frontend ACCDB file? Are the tables linked correctly?

I do not know if this is the correct way to do it...but MY copy of the frontend file is the normal (editable) Access 2007 file. When I finish an update, I create the ACCDE files for my users. We have a network hard drive we keep the backend files on. None of my users are having any problems. My file also connects without a problem. I can see all of my data when I open tables, forms or reports. Its only the controls with expressions that error. When I copy and paste that same existing control on the form then go back to form view...it "resets itself" and everything is wonderful again. I have to do this everytime I open my file.

Mhhh...have you done a compact and repair on this file lately? Have you tried to import everything into a blank new file to see if the behavior still continues.

Good luck

No I have not... I will try your ideas. This software has humbled me so! I hope I become knowlegable enough to help others at some point! Thank you, I will post my results.
