Hi
In the attached file can someone tell me if its possible to calaculate total hours by a particualr member of staff by referencing the Staff Fields and the Hours Fields. I dont think its possible but thought I would ask here. If not can someone advise on the best way to go about recreating this excel sheet to support what we need to do.
Any advice much appreciated.
Regards

I think your main issue here is that you have more then one staff member listed in the staff cells for each topic. I really think this should be transitioned to an Access database in which case you'll find what you want to do much easier.

That was my belief too. I have a real job on trying to move users away from their spreadsheets.
I know now its development time and they just wont use it.
THanks for your reply.

The formula would be really quite complicated, as you may have multiple entries not only in the staff cell, but even in the hours cell. The decimal point ( dot) makes it even more difficult for international environment...
You might be better off with an UDF (written in VBA).
Is the answer for DA: 9 and for JM: 1.5 for the first group? If not, what should be the result?

I've told them the options and they want to keep their spreadsheet.
Just as I suspected.

That is fine. I just wanted to say that it's better to write a function in VBA for this purpose, as the formula would be relatively complicated and hence difficult to edit.
Can you give examples of the desired results (as I have asked in my last post?)
