Has anyone had any experience scanning documents into Access? These docs could be medical record info, lab reports, demographic info, etc. I've never seen information on scanning other than for bar codes. I also wonder if these documents were scanned in that they might rapidly overcome the 2 gig limit on the database.

Comments?

Thanks!

You should store the PATH to the documents in the database. That way you will avoid the bloat that accompanies actuallly storing the documents.

Hiya,

In my last job I did something very similar, we had a machine that allowed us to scan in documents and give them a specific filename (we used the customers' reference), these were then scanned directly to a network folder by the scanner, and my system then picked the files up and processed them, moving the file to a different location on the network and then all the staff could view any document just by a couple of keypresses.

If you can get the file onto the network with a custom filename, you're halfway there. I agree with Frank completely though - you should store the full path & location of the documents in the database, rather than the documents themselves.

Cheers,
