I am new to both UtterAccess and even in using Access 2010.

I am trying to do a shift schedule for about 15 employees, we have two shifts ( one empoyee / shift) every day except in Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays where we have just one.
The thing is that i need to send request to all the employees where they can specify which shifts they can work and which they dont, write an explanation why they cant, in the end it is me or decide who will work when , and send it back to them and also to others in pdf format. It should be also easy to edit the schedule if some one get sick or something.

I am totally new in Access,

Should i continue to try to do it in Access?
Should i try something else ?
Any ideas or suggestions?

This could be done in Access but whether you "should" do it in Access depends on your purpose for creating the database application. If you are planning on keeping track of your employees prior work schedule, then I think you "should" do it in Access.

Just my 2 cents...

My opinion, if you're new to Access, use it for logging the shifts covered, reasons for not covering etc but do not try to use Access to create the schedules for you. By that, I mean, do not try to get your head around how to create an interface where a click of a button generates a list of who covers and when.

I have attached an entity relationship diagram for logging the shift cover.

The employees are sent the request in paper form or emails etc, their response is logged here. From this, you can create reports on who is to cover when and if not, why they haven't.

I will try dblife idea, to send request for shifts and then get report who can or can not then make the schedule myself.

Will report the progression and post it when done.
