I have means to deploy an application along with either Access 2003 Runtime, Access 2007 Runtime or Access 2010 32-bit Runtime. The choice depends on the user's requirements, mostly based on which version of Windows they're using, etc.

Anyway, I try to keep up with any Runtime updates so I can incorporate (package) the latest version of Runtime with the latest version of the application. While Runtime updates are somewhat rare, they do occur (for example, V2 of Access 2007 Runtime was released in April, 2009).

I note that an SP1 update to Access 2010 32-bit Runtime was released in June, 2011. But when I download this, what I seem to be getting is just an update to the original V1. When I go to the Access 2010 Runtime download site, all that appears to be available is the original V1 download that came out in May, 2010.

Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

Is there a download available that consolidates the May, 2010 (original) download and the June, 2011 SP1 update (perhaps this would be called V2)?

As I go to Microsoft Download Center, Original SP1 filesize is 175MB, while the same SP1(KB2460015) released June 27, 2011 is 75MB only.
Your probably right, a patch for a patch.

Yes ... and when I tried to install it on a system that didn't already have Access 2010 Runtime, the SP1 installer came out with an error message saying there was no applicable software ... so it basically did nothing.

That was one of the factors that led me to post on this site.

That was true with Access 97. And maybe even Access 2000.

With Access 2003 and later the Access runtime is updates automatically with the Microsoft updates just like the full version of Access. This means the Runtime is keep current just like the full version through the same update process.. That is why you are not seeing separate updates for just the runtime version anymore.

I did not use Access 2002 very long. I jumped to 2003 before I started deploying the Access 2002 runtime. So I am not sure if Access 2002 updated with the Microsoft updates like 2003 does.

After install the 2003, 2007, 2010 runtime you should run Microsoft update to get your runtime package u[dated just liek you would with a full version of Access.


THe SP2 update for Office/Access 2007 make Access very stable. That is probably why they updated the Runtime package to include SP2. I would even let my apps run Access 2007 unless SP2 or late is installed.

Access 2010 SP1 has known issues. That is probable why you have not seen a new Access 2010 runtime with SP1. FWIW: I am waiting for the Office 2010 SP2 update before I start using the Access 2010 runtime in production.

Thank you. I'll alert the users of my application that their Runtime software will be subject to MS updates (of course, this means that they need to have their update preferences set accordingly so that Office updates are subject to the updater).

The application I distribute is out there in over 1,000 sites, and I was hoping to be able to send out an updated Runtime. Obviously, this is not possible ... and I should have done some research into this before now (distribution of the application goes back about 6 or 7 years now).

The application does not seem to have issues when Access 2010 is employed.

[ note ... originally, the application was developed using Windows 98 using A2K since the users were mostly using Windows 98 or XP ... the A2K Runtime was distributed at that time ... subsequently, everything was updated ... Windows 98 is no longer supported ... A2K is no longer supported ... Windows must be XP or later and development is done using A2K3 ]

The good news is that Microsoft now takes care of keeping the Office apps including the Access runtime updated. The key is making sure to run the Windows/Microsoft updates on each PC.



That is great. I started deploying apps with Access 2 and Windows 3.1! There was not a runtime until Access 97.
