I have become proficient with custom ribbons in Microsoft Access. But now I have a customer who wants an Excel application, and I want to give them a custom ribbon tab there. With Access it is so easy to deploy a ribbon through the USysRibbon table. But with Excel I am having trouble finding out how to import a custom XML ribbon.

In the 'Customize Ribbon' options I can 'import' something. I have had trouble figuring out if that can be custom well-formed ribbon xml, or is just for exported versions of custom UIs created within Excel. Any good info someone can post me to? Google appears to be hiding the right webpage from me on this one.

Thanks for your guidance.

Is the only way to customize Excel ribbons through XML editing to do the process where you edit the xml file that already exists in the workbook file?
