Full Version: Data Collection From Email

1st post. Be kind.

Trying a simple test of data collection from email. Using the Assets database and requesting only the Description Field in return.

1) is it possible to use your own email address to request data and reply to the request? Seems like a reasonable scenario for testing purposes but I may be asking the impossible.

2) My normal email view is plain text and I can switch to HTML if needed. Is this a problem when replying to HTML Form requests?

3) I was having "An error occurred while collecting data using e-mail" error message but I went to the Outlook Trust Center and I have the Access Outlook Addin for Data Collecting and Publishing installed. I did select "Apply Macro Security Settings to Installed Add-ins. But not sure if that was necessary.

4) I tried switching off "Automatically process replies and add data to Assets" to see if that was causing issues.

I create the email request and submit it. It comes in to my Inbox OK. I click on "Convert from plain text". Still looks OK. I hit reply and enter my data. Everything still OK. When I hit send I get a return reply "Message unprocessed"

Things to consider: We are an uptight shop. All email in and out must have a classification code in the subject line. This is added automatically and I have no control: "Subject: try again AccessDataCollection:{3BE51E05-052D-4C83-889E-95780436C985} (UNCLASSIFIED)"

Maybe this is messing it up?

Ideas?

Tried a couple of things that seem to work.
1) Turned on HTML as default view in Outlook.
2) Went back and played with some of the Trust settings. Not sure exactly what I did but it seemed logical at the time.

Seems to be working. May be a game changer for this project.
