Full Version: exporting a report to Word

I have an intermittent error with exporting to rtf files. My report records contain a number of expandable text boxes fed from memo fields. These display correctly on the report but, occasionally, when exported to word (.rtf) files the last few words do not appear.

I have exported the same reports to adobe without any problems so I suspect the issue is with the word export. This does not happen often, I had three examples in a recent report which contained 20+ records. The field which was truncated was not the longest on the report ( it contained 1500 characters).

The base table is an ODBC link to Lotus notes V5.

Has anyone experienced this or can offer any suggestions?

I find the best format to use when exporting is SNAP format, and the viewer is free

here is a link to the Microsoft site to download the SNAPSHOT viewer for Access

SNAPSHOT Viewer

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, I can't use this at the office due to security settings.

Get with your systems administrator and have her/him download the application, explaining why you need it.

Better still, don't export, print! Get a PDF printer driver like primoPDF and print your report out to this virtual printer (it creates a PDF file for you). You can then do whatever you want with the PDF file (unless you have the full Adobe Acrobat suite, you won't be able to edit it, but I don't think snapshots are editable either, so if you can live with snapshot, you should be able to live with PDF). The Adobe reader is much more popular than the snapshot viewer, so you can distribute the output to a wider audience without having to explain how to view what you have sent etc.

Actually, I already have adobe writer. The problem, as you point out, is that the output cannot be edited (unless you use adobe to save the file as a word document, which is a bit tedious). I suppose my problem is irritation with the app rather than anything else. It's busted and I'd like to fix it.

Thanks for your help

I see what the problem is. Unfortunately, Access reports can not be exported with all the graphic elements into anything that can be edited. Good luck with the rest of your project.

another alternative is to output the information using program code...
