Hi,

I want to create unique record IDs for my records so I though about using aphabets and the record number to identify them e.g. "LBS 00" + (recordNumber) but I'm having a very hard time getting Access to generate the record number, can anyone help me out? Is the count function what I should use? If there's other ways of generating unique record ID you have used before and don't mind sharing, I would be really grateful. Thanks a million.

Just to add, I can't use autonumber because I will need to combine the data from this table with others, the "LBS" is the name of the table to which this data set belongs, so that when I combine the data from different tables together, each record will still retain its uniqueness. Is it possible to combine the autonumber generated by acces and the table name together e.g. "LBS" + [autoNumber]?
