Hello. I have a server machine that has two quad processors running at 1.5GHz. Both cpu's have minimum speed capacity, but I was wondering wether having two cpu's with four cores would make upgrading to a faster processor unnecessary.

Thanks.

are you maxing the machine out?

You can monitor the cpu usage and if you're not hitting limits then you are unlikly to see much improvement.

Just to be sure... what we are using it for? We have to be aware that not all software effectively utilize the multiple cores/CPUs. In case of Access, I suspect it's single-threaded so it really won't make much of difference other than having more core/CPUs enables the server to multi-task more effectively.

Its going to host a .net application. We haven't had the chance to test the performance yet but were wondering whether we should invest in better CPU's now.

Thank you.

In that case, it depends on whether the .net application has the multi-threading code in place to enable parallel processing.
