Novice Access user. I have a long report of 200 lines and 30 to 40 characters each line, pulled from a complex query. When I export it to a text file for a required transmission there are unwanted carriage returns in the text file. I do not use the Wizard and it cannot be and is not a delimited or fixed length file. Would appreciate some help.

So you're just right clicking the query and selecting export?
Are there also carriage returns that are wanted?

Just because you are a character doesn't mean that you have character.

I run my report. It looks fine. Go to file. Click export. Save as type. Click text file. Open the text file and there are carriage returns every 5 to 6 lines. There are no carriage returns appearing in the report before it is exported to the text file.

Try exporting the data from the Source Query instead of the Report ...

I can not send directly from the query. The Report massages the data into a flat file just the way the EDI recipient wants it. That is except for the emply lines caused by the unwanted carriage returns.

If your data can be massaged in the Report, it should be possible to massage the same data in a Query.

Perhaps you should post a sample copy of the database with the Report you want to output and see if anyone can massage the data using a Query ...

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm having the exact same problem.
