DAO

An acronym for Data Access Objects.

Definition: A middleware layer between the programming language and the data. It allows a developer to work with data while being unaware of it's implementation.

While the term "DAO" can be used in a general sense, it is most widely used in conjunction with a Microsoft Jet Database when referred to within this AccessWiki.
