Last Row or Column Without VBA

Array formulas can be used to find the last occupied row or column.

To find the last row in a column use the following as an array formula:

CODE

=MAX((ROW(ColumnName:ColumnName)*(LEN(ColumnName:ColumnName)>0)))

To find the last column on a row, use the following as an array formula:

CODE

=MAX((COLUMN(RowNumber: RowNumber)*(LEN(RowNumber: RowNumber)>0)))

In fact these formulas can be used to find the last occupied cell in a range. For example, to find the last occupied cell in either Column B or Column C you can use:

CODE

=MAX((ROW(B:C)*(LEN(B:C)>0)))
