This article covers information about TOCs that appear in wiki Pages, rather than Category TOCs.

By default, a TOC will appear when more than three headings are present in a page. The TOC appears at the top of the page's Body. This default behavior can be adjusted through the User Preferences, or you can include the __FORCETOC__ (two underscores) behavioral switch in your markup.

Usage of the __FORCETOC__ behavioral switch is not recommended without specific reason to do so.

The TOC is automatically created with the HTML ID "toc". You can [[Help:Linking|link] to it by using the [[#toc|text]] anchor syntax.
