I have inherited a Word document from someone else and it is now my job to keep it up to date. I will need to revise it every month or so.

I am not interested in tracking changes. I just want to see the results of my changes.

My problem is that the review pane appears every time I open the document. I then change All Markup to No Markup on the Tracking part of the Review tab on the Ribbon. However, the next time I open the document, the review pane appears again and All Markup is showing instead of No Markup.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can you change this option here?

Track Changes is off and remains off through open, alter some text, and close the document cycle.

It must be something else.

Is there an automacro that does this perhaps?

I looked at View, Macros, View Macros. There are no macros in the list, at all.

Another piece of data... When I open the document, only the document appears. Then, a few milliseconds later, the review pane appears.

Does this happen with all Words docs?

No, only this one.

Since I inherited it, I don't know its origin or update history.

I have attempted a work around. I started a new document, entered a couple of sentences, then copied a large portion from the middle of the errant doc to the new one. Seems to work. No problems. I think I will continue nibbling portions, and if all goes well, just abandon the old doc.

Thanks for your ideas.

If you don't mind, I'd like to look at the shell when you're done removing any proprietary or confidential information.

I'm no Word expert, but I am always curious about such mysteries.
