> General Date Input Mask Unavailable, Access 2016

I have a form that includes a date/time field and I am trying to give the user an input mask to make it easy to see how to enter the time portion. In the property box for the field (txtSampleDate) there is no choice for an input mask for General Date such that a time mask is also shown.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this the expected behavior for an Acess date/time field and I need to create a custom input mask?

there is a short date, long date, etc.
there is also an Edit list where you
can create your own input mask.

hi David,

perhaps what you want is Format?

I might caution against using InputMask since using that knocks out the ability to enter, for instance, '8a' for 8:00 am, and other shortcuts. However, if you do want to restrict the user to specific entries for each position, then you can use a custom input mask, as you already surmised.

If the form control is bound to a date/time field, then Access will ensure data type. If it is unbound, Access will offer choices for text.

btw, there is no such thing as a field on a form ... forms only have controls. A control may contain a field. You said it right though! What is the data type for the field in the control?
