this is the osrt of code layout you use. It's more coding than simply docmd.openquery, but gives you control of the process.

pseudocode

CODE
declare and open a recordset

while not recordset.eof
  doevents

  process record

  'code block to show progress, or anything else
  'goes here

  recordset.movenext
wend
recordset.close



so now you are processing each record of the query individually. The DoEvents relinquishes control to the OS, and you can do other things in the background. eg - click other forms, which can give a friendlier interface, but you have to be careful not to interfere with the query process.

If you want to update other information within the process, you can do this within the loop. You might find the DoEvents helps in allowing the display to refresh.
