I have a database that is split. I try to routinely compact and repair the back end of the file to keep things from getting too large. My problem is that sometimes its hard to find a time when no one is using the file to compact and repair

Am I correct to believe that I have to wait until the file is not in use to compact and repair? I have tried at a time when I believe others are in the file and I get errors, but I am not sure that is the root cause. But the issue is resolved easy enough

Please let me know your thoughts

Thank you

There are several ways to kick users off of a shared database (or several if more than one is open). The KickEmOff2K file at this link is one option.

It is true that Compact and Repair can only be done when there are no other users.
