Anyone know why Visual Studio 2019 can't, or won't, recognize an attempt to connect to Access database with an accdb extension? I get an error of "Unrecognized database format".

Wow, haven't even installed VS 2019 yet.

I will try with VS 2017 and see. I don't have much use for an accdb backend though for that sort of app.

It was successful. I can't say what might have changed in VS 2019.

Hi kiwi. Just FYI, I moved your topic here from the General Chat. Good luck!

VS2019 16.0.1 community edition on Win 7 SP1 64bit (italian) and A2016: I have the same error. It connects to mdb but not to accdb. Now I try to update to 16.0.3.
Edit: the solution is not in VS2019 update but installing Microsoft Access Database Engine. I used 2016 version.Microsoft Access Database Engine 2016 Redistributable
Be carefull to Additional information section in that page:
QUOTE
If Office 365 is already installed, side by side detection will prevent the installation from proceeding. Instead perform a /quiet install of these components from command line. To do so, download the desired AccessDatabaseEngine.exe or AccessDatabaeEngine_x64.exe to your PC, open an administrative command prompt, and provide the installation path and switch Ex: C:\Files\AccessDatabaseEngine.exe /quiet
I used the same trick when I received this error: "You cannnot install the 32-bit version of Microsoft Access Database Engine 2016 because you currently have 64-bit Office products installed. If you want to install 32-bit Microsoft Access Database Engine 2016, you will first need to remove the 64-bit installation of Office products. After uninstalling the following product(s), rerun setup in order to install 32-bit version of Microsoft Access Database Engine 2016: Office 16 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component 64-bit Registration".
With /quiet argument everything went ok and now I can connect to accdb file from VS2019
