When opening a excel file that we have used for years (currently in MS Excel 2016 -- which BTW s missing from the Version dropdown) I see that on opening it is "Linking" to a *.dat file. I am trying to see what that file is and what in the file is impacted by that. Especially since, I have never linked files to the excel. I only link to it from Access.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

.Dat refers to a generic "data" file. It could be a few different things, including email attachments or video files. Is there a path associated with that file? Can you open the folder location where it's supposed to reside? Does that give you any clues?

I quickly see a file name but no path.

Odd, indeed.

Maybe you can show us a screenshot that'll help put it into some sort of context?
